Why does this exist?
On September 29, 2026, the U.S. President signed the executive order “Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence.” It directs every executive department and agency to use “Super Intelligence” / “SI” in place of “Artificial Intelligence” / “AI” in official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, policy documents, and other non-statutory materials.
- Who must comply: federal executive departments and agencies only.
- What stays unchanged: statutes passed by Congress, existing contracts, grants, regulations, and historical documents — the legal definition of AI (15 U.S.C. § 9401(3)) still applies.
- Private companies: use of “SI” is entirely voluntary; there is no penalty or deadline for the private sector.
